"Just think of Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center, which famously owned the technologies that helped catapult Apple (the graphical user interface, the mouse), Adobe (post script graphical technology) and 3Com (Ethernet technology) to success. Why didn't Xerox exploit them?" asks Mark Johnson in his new book Seizing the White Space - Business Model Innovation for Growth and Renewal.
             ed hardy clothing
Over time successful companies become good at what they do at. But any new product or opportunity requires the company to operate very differently "with a different formula for making money, a new set of resources and processes, different expertise, and maybe a new way to co-ordinate and control activities." Given this, most companies give these new opportunities a miss.

Now take the case of the now "ubiquitous" Apple iPod, which "wrapped a good technology in a great business model." As Johnson writes, "Apple's genius lay in its realisation that making it easy and convenient to download music to the iPod would fuel demand for its high-priced music player. Eighteen months after introducing the iPod, Apple launched the iTunes Store, a service component that tightly locked hardware, software and digital music into one user-friendly package. This move recalled one of the great business model innovations of all time: King Gillette revolutionising men's shaving by choosing to give away the razor handle-a durable-in order to lock customers in to purchasing his consumable, high-margin blades. Apple reversed Gillette's model, essentially giving away the blades - low margin, consumable iTunes music - to lock in purchase of the handle - the iPod - whose margin returned high profits."

The bigger question is which company should have logically captured the market for a product like iPod? The answer, of course, is Sony whose "Walkman line had dominated the portable music market since the early 1980s." But the trouble was Sony was also a music company with all the expensive music artists bringing out their music albums on the Sony music label. By supporting a product with MP3 technology like iPod the company would risk its entire music business given that MP3 songs can easily be copied. "In fact, the music industry was deeply suspicious of the MP3 technology, which it correctly thought would cannibalise the CD market," writes Johnson.

Sony should have logically captured the market for the MP3 player market, but it remained stuck to its existing way of doing things and lost out on a huge opportunity.

An example similar to that of Sony is Kodak, which remained so obsessed with an existing way of doing business, that it couldn't see that the world around it was changing. "In 1975, Kodak engineer, Steve Sasson invented the first camera, which captured low-resolution black-and-white images and transferred them to a TV. Perhaps fatally, he dubbed it "filmless photography" when he demonstrated the device for various leaders at the company," writes Johnson.

Kodak at that point of time was the number one producer of photo film in the world. And given that, why would it want to even think of a product that would compete with it. As Johnson tiffany heart toggle bracelet writes, "Later Sasson recalled management's overall assessment of the development. "It was filmless photography," he said, "so management's reaction was, 'that's cute - but don't tell anyone about it.'"...It took more than twenty-five years for Kodak to find success in the digital camera market with its Easyshare brand."

Moral
Other articles:
http://www.windsormanuf.com/Retailers-offer-more-on-the-We.html
http://www.hpsunet.com/NuMobile-Inc-to-Review-Speci.html
...

<trackback:ping>http://www.jdhauser.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=489&key=1aba9a27</trackback:ping>

make your dad a card replica f

Make your dad a card

DON'T forget, pups, it's Father's Day tomorrow. The driver, Bobby from Islington, recognises the baby-faced actor immediately from BBC1's Hustle as jive-talking Mervyn, the scamster who managed to flog fellow-hustler Mickey a useless mobile phone. 'I'm nothing like him - though maybe if I've had a drink and talked incessantly...' jokes Daniel as we drive by one of his favourite pubs, the Endurance in London's Soho.
               sexy lingerie china
Daniel, 31, who has just finished filming the role of Gene Hunt's nemesis in the finale of BBC1's Ashes to Ashes, wants to drive past the influential Royal Court Theatre in Chelsea, where film and TV casting directors came flocking after two parts were written specially for him (in Jez Butterworth's The Winterling and Simon Stephens's Motortown). Now he's made his proper Hollywood debut as a comic baddie alongside Mackenzie Crook and Andy Serkis in Steven Spielberg's forthcoming motion-capture film The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (though he had a fleeting role as a pilot in 2001's Pearl Harbor). 'I'm not your conventionally good-looking guy - but I'm happy with it,' says Daniel, whose Irish and Italian or Spanish (he's not sure which) ancestry has given him black-lashed brown eyes, soulful lips and a crazy Peter Sellers mop of dark hair. The combination works so well that he has acted nonstop since leaving Rada in 2000.

Mike Leigh, that master of social realism, gave Daniel his first big chance in the film All or Nothing, as girlfriend-abusing Jason, after seeing him as Kat Slater's boyfriend in EastEnders. 'They asked me to stay, but I wanted to try new things,' says Daniel, who went on to play Imelda Staunton's son in another Leigh film, 2004's Vera Drake - an experience so emotional that he fled from one rehearsal after discovering that Vera was a back-street abortionist (Leigh only allows his actors to know what their characters know at any one point).

Two years later Daniel and his make-up artist girlfriend Lou (Louise) Burton became parents when their son Mylo, now four, was born. It was an unplanned pregnancy: 'He was a shock - but a nice one - and I'd hate Mylo to be an only child. I come from a family of four boys and I had a fantastic childhood. I'm the only actor - the others are all relatively sane,' says this down-to-earth Essex boy, the son of an electrician and a bank cashier. Sport-mad as a child, he still plays weekend football with his North London neighbour James McAvoy, with whom he also starred in the Oscar-winning Atonement.

Despite departures into comedy, such as Channel 4's Plus One and the newly released Nanny McPhee and the replica breitling watches Big Bang, he's best known for those cliff-edge characters such as tragic Michael in C4's Red Riding and heroin addict Adam in BBC2's 2003 drama Rehab. 'Rehab took a lot out of me and it was difficult to let go,' says Daniel, who then played a Muslim drug dealer's friend in the indie film Shifty. And as if that weren't enough fireworks for one career, he plays the policeman investigating Gene Hunt's accidental shooting of Keeley Hawes's Alex in the final series of Ashes to Ashes. 'The finale is hugely ambitious - it's going to blow people's minds,' he enthuses.

Talking of mind-blowing, he also co-stars with Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy in the upcoming, orgy-strewn Hippie Hippie Shake. 'We filmed it in 2007 when Sienna had loads of paparazzi round her, so we tried to protect her. The eight-month-old who had a liver transplant in October is well enough to return to Temuka with parents Kate Manson and Mike Johnston and big sister Hazel.
                                                             replica tag heruer watches
The family will fly home from Auckland today and Miss Manson said the family couldn't be happier. "Initially the doctors had told us that we could bring Alice home for a week, but yesterday afternoon they changed their minds and said we could come home for good, providing her new liver stays happy with the current bile drainage tube that's in her."

Miss Manson said Alice needed the bile drainage tube as it kept access to the stricture, a narrowing of the biliary tube, and ensured the stricture stayed repaired. "Alice will have the tube and bile drainage bag attached to her for up to six months, but that's a small price to pay after what she's been through. We are just so stoked that Alice has made it. She's been a real wee trooper throughout this whole experience. She's captured many hearts, from the doctors to nurses to the Ronald McDonald staff. Many are sad to her go but they are Thomas sabo charms happy that we're all going to be home together as a family."

It has been six months since Alice was in Temuka and that was only for a week.

"This whole journey started when she was three weeks old. We feel so fortunate that she's survived and is facing a long future ahead of her. We will have more 'hurdles' to cross, but nothing like the past seven months. It's been a tough journey as a family but it's made us a tighter unit."

The family wished to thank Alice's grandparents, Maurice and Glen Manson, who looked after Hazel. "My dad and mum have missed a lot of work this year, bringing Hazel up to Auckland many times and we are so grateful replica hublot watches that they did that. All of our family members have been so supportive and wonderful - we couldn't have done this without them," Miss Manson said.

"There are so many people and organisations we'd like to thank, . . . Opihi College staff . . . family and friends, and finally the community of South Canterbury who took such an interest in our plight and overwhelmed us with their support and generosity.

"We can't wait to be home."

Other articles:
http://www.xbjsjz.com/Its-sink-or-Swin-time-for-Fal.html
http://www.setemplate.net/merak/blog.php?user=mywatches&blogentry_id=365
...

<trackback:ping>http://www.jdhauser.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=486&key=38045249</trackback:ping>

Week ahead looks strong for ne

NEW YORK - Eight companies are aiming to raise up to $1.9 billion through initial public offerings by Friday, potentially the biggest week for IPOs so far this year.

Forty companies have raised $6 billion in IPOs this year, according to Renaissance Capital. Metals USA priced above expectations, but then sank in its first day of trading. Shares are still more than 15 percent off their offering price.

The best of the lot, say analysts who track IPOs, are Charm, a leading TV ad agency in China, and Smile Brands, which provides back- office services and equipment to dental offices, helping lower costs for dentists.

The dental market's expenditures shrank in 2009 for the first time in 55 years as laid-off employees lost their health coverage and consumer spending dropped, said Baird health care analyst Jeffrey Johnson. But patient volumes are slowly rising this year, perhaps 1 to 2 percent, as job rolls grow. The overall dental market could grow 2 to 3 percent this year, he said.

The recent health care overhaul, which gets more twentysomethings onto their parents' insurance, also could help boost dentists' patient load.

Meanwhile, Charm is priced cheaply compared with its competitors, said Francis Gaskins of IPODesktop, and a big exclusive contract that started last year with Tianjin Satellite Television has helped increase revenue in 2009. He is worried about future revenue growth, however, as that contract expires in 2011.
        lingerie wholesale
The other companies expected to go public this week include MIE Holdings Corp., Douglas Dynamics Inc., Madison Square Capital Inc. and S&W Seed Co.

Ryerson, a $400 million IPO, is a Chicago-based metals processor. After the disappointment of Metals USA, investors may be wary of another metals processor, IPOfinancial's Menlow said.

MIE Holdings, a Chinese oil company that has longstanding production-sharing contracts with PetroChina Ltd., Asia's bi
Other articles:
http://www.bloghoster24.de/blog.php?user=mywatches&note=1890
http://www.hpsunet.com/NWT-Uranium-Corp-Receives-Appr.html
...

<trackback:ping>http://www.jdhauser.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=485&key=63ff8fdf</trackback:ping>

Week three is a charm on 'RuPa

The most recent contestant to sashay away talks food, country vs. Western and the beauty of splits

Hello all you beautiful

people! Can you believe it is week three of "RuPaul's Drag Race" already? So much is happening - let's get right into my conversation with Mystique Summers Madison, the Texas beauty who went out with a bang!

I was impressed how well Mystique did in the third episode's opening challenge, when she just dove right links of london charms in and swallowed down all those mystery foods she had to eat. "I was like, 'Oh no, it's fried food,'" Mystique remembered. "I hadn't had fried food in four months. Oh my God, I just went for it. I was just swallowing, I wasn't tasting." Even though she looked like a cool cucumber, Mystique was nervous. "It was the scariest thing ever,' she revealed. "That was drag 'Fear Factor'!"

That win made Mystique one of the group leaders for the Disco "Extra Greasy" shortening TV commercial exercise, and I wanted to know what her strategy was for picking which girls would be on Team Mystique. "Pandora did work editing TV commercials, replica tag heruer watches and Jessica is a dancer," Mystique explained. "Everybody else had pretty makeup and were people I got along with."

I was surprised to learn Mystique was ecstatic over RuPaul switching out their script with the one being used by the other team. "For us, it got easier because the script was easier," she explained. "I was happy. It was actually fun." I also wanted to know what she thought of Raven, and her sometimes very cutting comments about Mystique and food. "Out of everybody on the show, Raven is the only one I have not heard from," Mystique told me. "Haters are everywhere, but haters make my life easier, because I work harder just to make you hate on me even more."

Mystique stands by her decision to go with a very modern interpretation of country wear for her runway walk, and argues what the other girls presented was more a Western look. "I don't like making fun of people," she explained, noting that if she had gone for a stereotypical look it may have offended her most dedicated fans.

When I think Mystique, I think splits, more splits, which leads to additional splits. And then remember Mystique? She's the one who nails the splits! I can barely lift my leg, and here is a big girl making it look so easy. "My signature is my eyes and my spins," she said. But when she really wants to shock, she breaks out a split. Mystique must get into the zone, because when she watched her solo on TV last week, she didn't even remember she did a death drop! Now that's a girl who knows how to work for a crowd.
             Clip on charms
Mystique, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for your self-integrity and thank you for being yourself.

Other articles:
http://www.reformanevada.org/Coach-Inc-thriving-despite-ec.html
http://www.90598.com/bbs/bbsxp/Blog.asp?BlogUserName=mywatche&menu=ShowBlog&BlogID=728
...

<trackback:ping>http://www.jdhauser.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=484&key=204631d0</trackback:ping>

Second van victim loses fight

A SECOND man hit by a van while going to the aid of the victim of a car crash has died from his injuries.
                                         replica tag heruer watches
Anthony Gordon, 39, had been in a critical condition in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow since the incident on the A737 near Linwood on January 31.
      replica hublot watches
Mr Gordon, from the Paisley area, was one of two men struck as they helped a 71-year-old motorist seriously hurt after her Volkswagen collided with a Seat Leon.

Mr Gordon and Thomas Rarity stopped their cars and crossed the carriageway to help. The conversion was missed.

Frome continued to pressure the home side's line and were rewarded with a penalty from skipper Matt Maddocks.
       replica hublot watches
Wimborne came back hard at Frome, stretching the Somerset men across the pitch and scoring two unconverted tries to edge ahead 10- 8 at the interval.

The game went without score for the majority of the second half. Again Wimborne looked to force the ball wide but were unable to penetrate or go around the Frome defence.

Frome edged ahead with 10 minutes remaining when Maddocks kicked a penalty to make it 11-10.

The home side tried to force the play, which allowed Frome to create great field position, and MacDonald slipped through the heart of the Wimborne midfield to score at the base of the post.

On Saturday, Frome travel to Blandford for a rearranged fixture.

   Frome 3rd XV 24 Nailsea & Backwell 2nd XV 5
                  links of london charms
Frome took on Nailsea and Backwell seconds on Saturday keen to avenge their heavy defeat earlier in the season.

They started the game brightly and confidently, with the forwards more than holding their own against their wily counterparts.

From an early scrum, the excellent Liam Sheldon found skipper Mark O'Shea, who unselfishly released Steve Gilson to break through and run for 40 metres before offloading to Chav King, who scored an excellent debut senior try under the posts. Dave Abrahams converted.

Gilson repeated his feat five minutes later, making 35 metres before releasing Abrahams to score in the corner.

Nailsea had also come to play and put Frome under pressure, flanker Fraser Thomson being sin-binned and the home side conceding several penalties, which eventually led to a try for the visitors.

The rest of the half continued in the same way, with Nailsea the keener to contest the breakdown, but the Frome defence holding firm.
                          replica breitling watches
After the break, Frome introduced Daz Bowles and his impact was immediate, with some strong carries. Lucas Ives also entered the fray and began to make his presence felt.

Frome put together some good passages of play when the ball was moved through the hands to Abrahams, who took the gap created by another Gilson burst, put the gas on and rounded the full-back to score, before converting to make it 19-5.

Other articles:
http://www.eworkexchange.com/st-LdWritethru-China-says-In.html
http://mywatches.wikimind.com/2010/03/22/nsw-clubs-targeted-in-talks/
http://www.esszx.com/Blog/View/?698
...

<trackback:ping>http://www.jdhauser.com/cmd.asp?act=tb&id=482&key=9ab1df01</trackback:ping>

The mythical white man

Some years ago in Samoa, Albert Wendt pointed out to a group of Palagi that the full term was Papalagi, which referred to a mythical white creature with magical powers who came from over the reef.

So when I returned to New Zealand, I referred replica hublot watches to my Maori dictionary and there the word pakepakeha was "imaginary beings resembling men with fair skins''.

Michael King, in his Penguin History of Thomas sabo charms New Zealand, says the term Pakeha was in use by at least 1814 and was probably derived from the pre-European word pakepakeha, denoting mythical white- skinned beings.

The term Pakeha describes my cultural identity.
